This time last year, I was sitting at my laptop in the office when the office manager came by and dropped off a picture of me taken at a talk and book signing Cherie Blair held for LSE alums. I'm not an LSE alum, but my boss was and he made such a fuss about it, the whole Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-49680746774605230552010-12-23T13:06:00.000+05:302010-12-23T13:08:42.439+05:30Jaipur - AgraSince I left Udaipur on sunday night, I've spent 2 and a half days in Jaipur and I'm now in Agra. Jaipur was nice. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I did get to see a few sights / monuments and they were fantastic. It was quite incongruous at times trying to reconcile the mad turmoil that is present day Jaipur with what it must have been in the time of the Maharajas. Udaipur is lovely. The lovely Lake Pichola and seeing the massive palaces and havelis that front the lake. Although they've gone to seed somewhat - especially the Bagore Haveli, it's enough to make you imagine the splendour those Maharanas and Maharajas lived in. In Naija speak, those guys sabi chop life. Walking around the old ciy is a pleasure. I've walked some already, but planGlobewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-79639833205878231602010-12-18T08:10:00.000+05:302010-12-18T08:12:45.541+05:30Backpacking TripI know it's been a while since I wrote, but last few weeks have just been hectic. But I officially stopped work two days ago, so I have some me time!
I'd initially planned to be out of here by last week. What with my myomectomy and all, I decided to extend my stay by another three weeks. So that meant I was going to be in India for Christmas and the New Year and no plans made. And also Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-53147594038259745532010-11-15T18:27:00.002+05:302010-11-15T18:41:50.997+05:30Back to WorkI went back to work today. It was good to leave the house and be up and about. Although everyone knew I'd been away for girl surgery. Even the building guard gestured to my stomach and asked how I was. I tried not to be too mortified.
One thing I've noticed is how quickly shame and embarrassment give way in this circumstance. I've had a doctor poke a joystick, condom and all up my Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-45499127566043914872010-11-07T12:08:00.000+05:302010-11-07T12:07:52.831+05:30Oh No!!It was so horrible!!! I went downstairs to get some water from the filter. The hostel's so quiet, I think I'm the only one in the building. Even the Catholic priest on the first floor is gone off somewhere. So, I went down to get water and to get to the filter you have to walk past the entrance to the hostel. The gates at the entrance are closed to keep stray dogs out, but not locked - Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-12665575739249455652010-11-05T10:36:00.001+05:302010-11-05T10:36:32.105+05:30I haven't written in a while. Chiefly because when you are lying down in bed 22 hours a day, there's really nothing happening beyond what you had for breakfast (in this case muesli and yoghurt), lunch (pasta), dinner (home delivery/brown rice/tandoori chicken); and since I've been eating the same meals, even that hasn't changed.
Been to the hospital twice this week, and another Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-85796562436009520252010-10-29T18:32:00.001+05:302010-10-29T18:32:11.805+05:30Home!Got discharged from the hospital today. Was glad to leave but also a bit apprehensive about just how I'd manage to take care of myself since I live alone. End result of which my BP started to rise.....oh well....
The ride home was bumpy (my office sent a car, thank God!) and long, coupled with which I had to get some money out of the atm and do some food shopping. By the time I got home and Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-66291026668506758142010-10-26T19:32:00.001+05:302010-10-26T19:32:40.358+05:30Day OneFirst day post op and I feel marginally better. My stomach still hurts loads but I've had the wee bag taken out and I've walked to the bathroom once today. I'm on fluids now and I'm allowed to drink water or juice and ice cream as well.
Laughing hurts a lot though and so does coughing. I'm quite tired now so I'll sign off here. Was under general anaesthesia so didn't feel a thing. Waking up to the pain was nasty though. Both tumours weighed 2.2 kg. That's the size of a baby!
So in so much pain now. Just wanted to post this update

And so the countdown to my Myomectomy has started. I'm scared, really really scared.
It doesn't help that I'm in a public hospital in India cos I have no insurance and that's all I can afford right now.
The hospital is on the campus of a medical college and they have really experienced doctors who have years of practical experience. I've read up on myomectomy on so many sites and they all seem to agree that it takes anywhere from 2 - 6 weeks to get back to work. I really hope I can be back at work within 2 though, the thought of lying down bored out of my mind for 6 weeks is just too much. We'll see how it goes. Doing so much online research has kind of Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-22180707424644225382010-10-22T16:59:00.000+05:302010-10-22T16:59:31.930+05:30Moving on....So I'm gradually beginning to feel less like my life is falling apart. Maybe because my mind is in overdrive and I have so many things going on at the same time. But the upside of this is that I am now able to see that having fibroids isn't the end if the world. I'm still scared that I might lose my uterus, but I reallllllyyyyy pray it doesn't come to that.
After leaving evil doc the other day, Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6321550703658531518.post-60253135865219670742010-10-19T17:38:00.001+05:302010-10-23T17:41:49.678+05:30When it rains………
It's tough. What a way to begin, but that's how I feel right now and it's been so bloody hard. I've been trying so very hard to lose weight and get healthy. Exercise often, eat carefully and this happens. Firstly, I land in hospital for the second time ever in my life with viral fever (first time being typhoid fever 20 years ago!). I should have suspected that the fates weren't done with me Globewalkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16505778985902575190noreply@blogger.com0
